KING’S OLYMPIC TRIUMPH
In the spring of 2012, as the world eagerly looked forward to a summer of sporting excellence, King’s Boiler Hire were making plans for their supply of temporary boiler plant to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
King’s Boiler Hire were selected as suppliers of temporary hot water boiler plant for the athlete’s catering and restaurant facility at Stratford’s Olympic Park, London.
King’s Boiler Hire, renowned for their expertise, reliability and ability to work to exacting schedules, transported the boiler plant to Stratford, installed and commissioned on target. At a venue with such high security and time-critical access arrangements, co-operation between the client and King’s engineering staff was paramount. The sheer scale of operations necessary for the 2012 Olympics was enormous. It was the largest deployment of temporary power for a single sporting event ever in the UK.
King’s temporary boiler plant operated uninterrupted for the whole of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
According to The 2012 Food Charter, food quantities needed to feed the athletes, staff and workers in the London 2012 Olympic Village included:
- 25,000 loaves of bread
- 232 tonnes of potatoes
- More than 82 tonnes of seafood
- 31 tonnes of poultry items
- More than 100 tonnes of meat
- 75,000 litres of milk
- 19 tonnes of eggs
- 21 tonnes of cheese
- More than 330 tonnes of fruit and vegetables
As Lord Coe, London 2012 and British Olympic Association chairman said after the Games “Thousands of British businesses supplied goods and services that were essential to the successful staging of the Games..”
King’s Boiler Hire were delighted to have been involved in such a wonderful event particularly where so many British companies were showcasing their expertise. More than 70 per cent of London 2012’s individual suppliers were micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. Over 95 per cent of London 2012’s total spend was within the UK and contracts were awarded to businesses in all regions of the country. The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have also been officially hailed as the most sustainable in history, something which sits comfortably with King’s environmental philosophy.
For King’s Director’s and staff it was an extremely proud time; to be a part of such a huge occasion was extremely rewarding for everyone in the Group and ensured that the Summer of 2012 will be remembered for many, many years as King’s Olympic Triumph.
